Meet Alberta Regional Libraries

Since 1959, what began as Parkland Regional Library has become a network of 39 public libraries throughout central Alberta, catering to over 200,000 residents. This network is dedicated to providing both technical and professional support, ensuring that even the smallest community libraries have the means to offer efficient, accessible services.

This commitment reflects a legacy of fostering community and knowledge, aiming to enhance the educational landscape across Alberta.

Content Management Challenges Across Multiple Library Branches

The Alberta Regional Libraries were faced with an aging and disjointed digital framework spread across more than 100 Drupal websites. They also had significant hurdles in managing content and delivering a unified, engaging online experience. The need for a contemporary and centralized content management system (CMS) became evident, one that could unify the digital presence of all branches and streamline operations seamlessly.

The Solution

Pioneering a Digital Renaissance With Sitecore

Fishtank took on the task of transitioning the Alberta Regional Libraries (ARL) to a unified Sitecore platform from over 100 Drupal sites. This strategic migration facilitated centralized content management across the network's 39 libraries, preserving the unique identity of each while boosting efficiency and content consistency.

This foundational shift was crucial for modernizing the ARL's digital approach, setting the stage for further innovations and enhanced user engagement. Fishtank's development of a two-click site creation tool significantly simplified website updates, empowering libraries with limited IT resources to keep their content fresh and engaging.

Enhancing Engagement and Accessibility

Additionally, Fishtank integrated Coveo’s AI-powered search technology, providing users with instant access to a collection of over 800,000 assets, alongside a mobile-first design that made resources accessible anytime, anywhere. Further bridging the digital divide, Fishtank enhanced their catalogue systems and enabled direct social media content publishing, fostering stronger community connections.

Embracing Modernity With Sitecore XM Cloud

Fishtank recently took the ARL's digital infrastructure to the next level by upgrading their Sitecore instance to XM Cloud, a headless and more advanced CMS. This move positioned the ARL for growth with a more flexible, scalable, and future-proof platform. The headless architecture of Sitecore XM Cloud allows for more dynamic content delivery and integration capabilities, ensuring that the ARL can adapt to emerging technologies and user expectations more fluidly than ever before.

Empowering Alberta Regional Libraries With Sitecore XM Cloud

The partnership between Alberta Regional Libraries and Fishtank has not only revitalized the libraries' digital presence but has also set a foundation for continuous innovation. With the move to a headless site on Sitecore XM Cloud, the libraries are well-positioned to adapt to future digital trends, ensuring they remain at the forefront of providing exceptional service to their communities. This case study epitomizes how strategic digital transformation can empower organizations to better serve their users in today’s digital age.
